Amen to that! Thanks for sharing the article. As John Holt said, "Birds fly, fish swim, children learn." Ivan Illich's book, "Deschooling Society" is along those same lines. The whole book can be read online (see resource links in the side bar).
We are enjoying our "unschooling" adventure so far, and the most wonderful part is the way their minds actually create ideas, not just spit back out what they were force fed. It is not easy to find the perfect balance between discipline and freedom, but so far "schoolwork" is in the play category while "clean your room" is in the unpleasant work category. Wish I were Mary Poppins sometimes...
All I can do is second Sara with a loud AMEN! Homeschooling is so much more effective especially when children are allowed freedom to explore and ask questions, etc. Thanks, Scott, for posting such a good article.
